Our entire school started off the week by participating in a law enforcement drill with the Woodridge Police Department on Monday. The students and staff did an excellent job practicing and discussing what they should so in the event that our school has a lock down or if we have an intruder. The staff also participated in additional conversations after school with the Woodridge Police in order to talk through various scenarios and staff were able to ask questions and receive suggestions from the police.
On Tuesday, we had a kick-off assembly during the lunch hour for this year's Catalog Sale Fundraiser. The students learned about the various merchandise they can sell from the catalogs and the different prizes they earn if they sell. All catalogs were sent home with students on Tuesday to share with their parents. Catalog sale orders are due back to Willow Creek on Tuesday, November 4th. Fifth grade students attended their Outdoor Education Field Trip on Thursday over to Friday! The students had an awesome trip learning about the outdoors and participating in several adventurous activities! All activities are challenge by choice, so students chose what they wanted to challenge themselves to do throughout the trip. Most students who challenged themselves learned that they are capable of doing certain things than they often don't give themselves credit for or they learned they can do more than they think they can do! Activities our students participated in this year included: Basic Survival, Archery, Giant Swing, Climbing Tower, and a Lake Hike. All students also participated in many team building activities, a night hike, open gym time, and a campfire complete with S'mores and singing!!! Thank you to our staff who planned and attended the trip - Mrs. Wilkinson, Miss Buchholz, Mrs. Bailey, and Miss Carlson!! A special "Kudos and Thank You" also goes out to our ten parent chaperones who made the trip possible: Mr. Balicki, Mrs. Balicki, Mrs. Diaz, Mr. Jeske, Mrs. Lapacek, Mr. Llaneta, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Proctor, Mrs. Tiangco, and Mrs. Tomisek.
Friday evening, our PTO hosted our annual Halloween Dance!! We had an excellent turn out for the dance and many families also participated in the Raffle! The students enjoyed dancing to the music and the tasty treats that were available, especially the ice cream!! Thank you to Robin Lapacek, Nancy Llaneta, and Beth Renchin for organizing the event! Also, thank you to all of our parents who worked to obtain donations for the raffle and to those who volunteered to set-up, clean-up, or work during the dance!! A huge "Thank You" also goes out to Willow Creek parent, Mr. Deschamp, for being our D.J. for the event!!!
