Principal's Update 10-17-2014

Although this past week was a short one, it was a great week for learning!

Our student council had their first meeting of the year on Thursday! I am excited to report that we will be bringing back our school store for students. We have students who have volunteered to organize the set-up and they will be working with the student council members to sell the items during the lunch hour this year! More details will come as we are ready to re-open it!!

We celebrated our students of the month from the month of September on Friday. These students were chosen either by their teacher or their classmates for this honor. Individuals who are nominated for Student of the Month have demonstrated an ability to follow the school rules, be caring citizens, and show academic responsibility.

September students of the month were as follows:
Kindergarten: AM-  Gabe Seidelman
                         PM-  April Bartosz

1st Grade: Boots- Caitlyn Geringer
                   Cannis- Marius Bartkevicius

All of the items from the lost and found have been spread out on a table in the hallway outside of the lunchroom/gym. Please encourage your child to look for any lost items this week. We already have a decent amount of items that have been turned in and are attempting to have students claim those items before the weather really gets cold and it fills up even more with winter wear!

This coming Monday, we will be completing our Law Enforcement/Lock Down Drill with the Woodridge Police Department. During this drill, students will practice what to do if we needed to go into a lockdown. This will include age appropriate conversations with students as to what the teacher may instruct them to do in the event that there was an intruder in the building. The purpose of these drills in to ensure that everyone has a plan as to what to do in certain situations. It is easier to react and make the best decisions in an emergency situation if someone has already considered options and thought through what decisions they would make ahead of time.

Our PTO will be hosting our Halloween Dance this coming Friday! The dance will be held in the school gym from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Entrance is $2 per child ages 3 and up and parents are free. Pre-orders for tickets were due by Friday, but tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the dance. Students and parents may wear costumes to the dance, however, absolutely no masks or weapons of any type are permitted. There will also be a raffle going on during the dance. Tickets can be purchased until 8:15 p.m. for the raffle. Donations for raffle baskets were due last week, but items can still be turned in until Tuesday morning for the class baskets.
