Principal's Update 01-10-2013

Happy New Year! We had a great week back at WC! Even though we had a short week, there are still many things that took place for me to share!

When we returned to school on Wednesday, our first and second grade students had their musical. This year's performance was entitled "HATS" and our studens all did an excellent job! It was also great to see such a nice turn out at the evening performance at Jefferson! A big "thank you" goes out to Mrs. Hector for all of her hard work with the students to prepare for this performance.

The Technology Club for 4th Graders began this week! 4th Graders who are a part of this club will meet on Wednesdays and the Technology Club for 3rd Graders will begin this coming week and will be held on Tuesdays.

On Thursday, our after school clubs for Session #2 began! This session we have a Service Club for 1st and 2nd Graders and sign language club for 5th and 6th Graders. We also have a Homework Club going on as well!

Throughout the week, our students had a lot of fun playing outside in the snow! They specifically enjoyed the mounds of snow that were created from the plows that cleared our blacktop! Students built many forts, dug tunnels, rolled snow balls, and made snow angels in the snow as well!

Friday night was our annual Movie Night! This year, the feature film was Hoodwinked! We had a great turn our despite the nasty weather outside! Thank you to our PTO parents who made this evening possible!

Nominations for our Gifted program opened last week and will be accepted through January 31st. Information regrading nominations can be found in our Peachjar or on the district #68 Website. Please feel free to contact me or our gifted teacher, Mrs. Parker, with any questions regarding the nomination process.

A flyer regarding a unique opportunity for students in grades 5-8 has been added to our Peachjar. This event will provide opportunities for students to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math activities on Monday, February 17th. Students can also watch demonstrations and browse exhibits. Our students will be off of school that day for President's Day. Students participating must be accompanied by an adult, but it is free and looks like an interesting day of learning!!
