Principal's Update 10-25-2013

We had a week that was jammed packed with activities at WC! The entire week, students and staff dressed up to show their support of Red Ribbon Week! On Monday, we kicked off the celebration by wearing red. Students also enjoyed wearing mismatched clothes, bright colors, dressing like a friend, and showing of their jerseys for their favorite sports teams!

On Tuesday, we had a kick off assembly during the lunch hour for students to learn about our PTO Catalog Sale that is now going on! The students learned about the items they can sell over the next few weeks to earn money for our school and they saw the potential prizes that they could win for selling items. Any student who sells at least one item will earn a prize. Catalogs and information for parents were sent home with students on Tuesday. There are two different catalogs that students can sell items form this year. Please take a look at the catalogs and consider ordering. It is a great way to support our school and an easy way to purchase some holiday gifts or wrapping paper for the holidays, as the orders will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, December 3rd from 3-4 p.m.! Orders can be submitted to the school through the catalog order form found in your packet or they can be completed online at www.marketdayfundraising.com using Sales ID#: 211999. Complete details for the sale can be found on the digital flyer in the Peachjar!

Students in grades Pre-K through 3rd Grade participated in our vision and hearing screenings on either Thursday or Friday of this week. Any student who did not pass either of the screenings will receive information to take home to their parents letting them know that they did not pass. There will also be information as to how the parent can follow up once receiving the information.

We had our first Pizza with the Principal on Friday in order to honor our students of the month from the month of September! These students were chosen either by their teacher or their classmates for this honor. Friday was also our Halloween Dance and raffle! We had an awesome turn-out and the students had a blast! A huge "Thank You" goes out to the PTO and all of our parent volunteers who helped plan, organize, set-up, or clean-up the event. Also, a big thank you to everyone who donated items for the raffle! Your generosity is truly appreciated and benefits our students! There were several students who won raffle prizes or baskets and were not present to collect the prizes. As a results, prizes will be sent home with those students this week.

Coming up in about a week and a half will be the book discussion I am hosting on November 5th! We will be discussing the book Mindset by Carol Dweck! There is still time to read the book if you would like to join us. I have multiple copies of the book available for any parent who is interesting in reading the book and would like a copy. Please contact me and I will send a copy home with your child if you are interested!
