We started off our year with a bang! This year, our Accelerated Reader (AR) Theme is "Read for the Stars!" As a result, we greeted our students on Wednesday by rolling out the red carpet, as we were excited to have returning and new students back to school! The whole school also met outside on the front lawn of the school for a morning kick-off, where we said the Pledge of Allegiance all together and our 6th Graders led the school in singing the Star Spangled Banner. It was also a great opportunity for me to introduce our new staff to the student body! Check out the pictures below of our opening day together!
Our kindergarteners participated in an orientation with their parents on Wednesday and they came to school on Thursday by themselves! They wore their new Willow Creek spirit wear, compliments of the WC PTO! Our first graders have also been coordinated by wearing the same colors and they will be wearing one color each day for the next few weeks of school! The first color they wore last week was red!
A welcome letter was sent home with students on Friday containing information for parents for the start of the school year! I have also posted the letter to our Peachjar and the school website! Please be sure to check out the Peachjar regularly for flyers from our PTO and Community Organizations, as well as, the school!
Thank you to our PTO for hosting our annual Meet and Greet last Monday! I know the staff enjoyed greeting the students that were going to be in their classrooms and the students not only enjoyed seeing their teachers and friends, but they loved the freeze pops as well! Our first Willow Creek PTO Meeting is being held this Tuesday, September 2nd starting at 7 p.m. in the LRC (Learning Resource Center) at Willow Creek! I hope to see many parents there!
A few reminders for parents that I did not include in my back-to-school letter:
- Please be sure to call the office to report an absence if your child is going to be sick. Students need to be called in everyday, even if they are sick for consecutive days in a row.
- If you have a change in your personal contact information, please be sure to update your information in Skyward. It is ciritical that we have accurate phone numbers/contact information for parents so that we can get in touch with them in the event that a child is sick or there is an emergency.
- Be sure to clearly communicate any changes in a child's transportation to both the office and the classroom teacher. If a child has a change in how they are getting home after school, it is critical that we are aware in order to ensure that a child goes home the proper way and arrives safely to their destination after school.
- Please be sure that children have gym shoes to wear everyday for recess and for PE. Students are discouraged from wearing flip flops to school.
- Children in Grades 1st - 6th may bring a small, healthy snack to school each day. Information regarding allergy safe snacks went home for certain classrooms last week and classroom teachers reviewed guidelines for their individual classrooms with the students. Fresh fruits and vegetables are encouraged, as they are nutritious and typically safe for all students. As a result of their short day, kindergarteners do not have a snack time.
