Principal's Update 03-28-2014, 04-11-2014, and 04-18-2014

We have had several busy weeks before and after Spring Break!

Students in 3rd and 4th Grade participated in the PARCC Field Testing the week before and the week after Spring Break! All of the testing was completed electronically and the students used either computers in the computer lab or our Chromebooks to take the tests. The rigor of this assessment was more than that of the ISAT tests that we have historically taken, so it was a great opportunity for our students and staff to see what the testing was like and to be more prepared for the testing when it is our official standardized test next year.

Last week, our 3rd and 4th Graders and our Chorus also performed in their musical. The students worked hard to prepare for the performance, and multiple components of the performance were ideas, songs, or dance moves that the students came up with on their own! Students from our Sign Language Club also participated in the musical by signing one of the songs that the groups sang! A huge Kudos goes our to Mrs. Hector for her work with the students and a "Thank You" to Megan Boies, our Sign Interpreter, who lead the Sign Language Club.

In the week prior to Spring Break, we celebrated our Students of the Month from the month of February and this past week, we celebrated the Students of the Month from March! These students were chosen either by their teacher or their classmates for this honor. Last week Friday, students participated in our Willow Creek Battle of the Books. There were two different battles, one for third graders and one for students from 4th-6th grades. The winning teams from each of those battles then moved on to represent our school this past Wednesday at the D68 Battle of the Books! All of the teams did a great job during our school battle and the teams that went to the district battle did an excellent job representing Willow Creek!

On Thursday afternoon, we celebrated the 3rd Quarter reading accomplishments of all of our students with our AR Assembly! Students worked hard to reach their AR Goals while maintaining a comprehension average of 85% or higher on their AR Tests. Students will be continuing to work towards their AR Goals with 85% accuracy on comprehension for 4th Quarter. Students who exceed the 85% accuracy, will contribute extra to our all school comprehension goal. If students reach the all school comprehension goal at the end of 4th Quarter, the top and most improved readers from each class will have the opportunity to hit me with whipped cream pie cakes at our last AR Assembly of the year!

The 5Essentials Survey will be open for parents to complete until this Friday, April 25th. We currently have 13% of our parent population who have completed the survey. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to weigh in about our school. The survey for parents takes approximately 5 min. and we need at least 30% of our parents to complete the survey in order for our school staff to receive the feedback. Please take a few minutes to provide us with your input! You can click on this link to go directly to the survey or click on the 5Essentials Icon on our district or school webpages.

Kindergarten registration for the students who will be entering Kindergarten next year was held last week. If you know any families who will have students in kindergarten next year and they have not yet registered, please have them call the school!
