Principal's Update 03-14-2014

ISAT Testing was completed this week! Our students worked hard to complete these tests, and our staff worked hard to provide the best possible testing environment that they could for students. Snacks were provided to students who participated in the assessments. Thank you to our WC PTO for covering the cost of the snacks in order for us to make them available for everyone! This is our very last time taking the ISAT Tests, as next year we will officially shift to the PARCC Assessments. Students in grades three and four will be participating in the PARCC Field Testing that is coming up in the very last week of March and the beginning of April. By participating in the field testing, we will have an opportunity to see what the test will be like and make sure we are prepared for all aspects of the testing when the official shift is made next year. Our students will be completing these assessments electronically, which is major shift from how the ISATs are administered.

Once again, District #68 and Willow Creek School will join the Illinois State Board of Education in the second statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. This survey called, The 5Essentials, is designed to provide parents the opportunity to have a voice in improving our school. From March 17th - April 24th students in Grades 6, all parents, and certified teachers are asked to take this 20 minute research-based survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses in our school's learning environment. This second survey will also be an important chance for our school to reflect on progress since last year's inaugural statewide implementation. As a result, I encourage all parents to please take 20 minutes to complete the survey and provide us with feedback. We need at least 30% of our parent population to complete the survey in order to receive the results and be able to use them to improve. Information regarding the survey has been posted to our Peachjar and a link to the survey has also been placed on the district and school webpages. Parents need to simply click on the Illinois 5Essentials icon on either page and it will go directly to the page to start the survey. You may also just click on this link 5Essentials to get to the survey!

Students should have come home this week with information regarding our PTO Fundraiser through Square 1 Art. Each student created their own original piece of artwork in art class and through Square 1 Art parents can order items with the students' artwork on them. Available items for purchase include necklaces, iPod cases, mugs, and much more! These items can make great presents for Mother's Day or Father's Day, as the orders will be returned in time for both days! All orders are due back by March 25th! Please contact Stacey Bretwisch at staceybretwisch@aol.com with any questions!
