WC Students Study the Election

Several classes of students at Willow Creek were learning about or studying to understand the presidential elections that will be held on Tuesday. For example, students in Mrs. Basford's 5th and 6th grade class have been reading about each of the presidential candidates and learning about their stance on various important issues such as the economy, war, education, and health care. Based on the information they gathered, they chose a side and had a mock debate to try and convince their classmates to choose one side over another just as our presidential candidates did this year. Following the debates, students held an election to determine how each group did with convincing their classmates of their respective side.

In fourth grade, our students also learned about the elections and held a mock election. Students learned  about electoral votes, they cast their own votes, and they even had election judges! They had conversations about swing states and learned how elections are typically run.

I hope all of our parents are planning on exercising their right to vote on Tuesday and encourage parents to discuss the right to vote and elections with their children! What an excellent learning opportunity for our students at home, as our students will be off of school on Tuesday.
