Thank you to our parents who attended the PTO meeting on Tuesday evening! The next PTO sponsored event will be our Movie Night on Thursday, February 26th. Details for that evening have been posted to the Peachjar and will be going home with students this coming week! Our next Box Top Contest will also be going on this month. The box top collection sheets can be found on the Peachjar or you may use the forms that are sent home with students to collect the Box Tops your family clips!
PTO is also currently looking for volunteers to chair multiple events for next year. Please feel free to contact our PTO President Beth Renchin (bethrenchin@hotmail.com) for more information if you are interested in getting involved. There are a variety of activities that parents can help with depending on interests and availability. Several events are short, one time events, while other events are ongoing. Volunteers and chairs are needed for both types of events! Our next PTO meeting will be held in May on Tuesday, May 5th at 1:30 p.m. We hope to have all positions filled for PTO at that time.
In March, I will be hosting my next "Mingle with Matthews" in lieu of a PTO meeting. Please join me to learn more about the upcoming PARCC assessments that students in grades 3-6 will be completing in both March and May. Parents with students of all ages are encouraged to attend, as students in grades K-2 will eventually be taking the assessments and it will also help clarify the purpose of various activities or student learning that occurs in lower grades.
Student Council will be hosting a candy lips sucker sale this week Monday, Feb. 9th - Wednesday, Feb. 11th. Suckers will be on sale for $1 each. Also, Student Council is hosting a "We Love Superstar Students" spirit day on Thursday, Feb. 12th where students are invited to Dress Like a STAR!
The 5Essentials Survey is open for parents to complete. Please take five quick minutes to provide answers to the survey questions in order to help our school improve. Click on the following link to go directly to the 5Essentials Survey. Currently 3 % of our parent population completed the survey and we need at least 20% participation in order to receive the results for our school report card next year. Also, the more participation we have, the more accurate the information will be for our staff to use in creating our school improvement plan. The computer lab will be open and available for parents to use to complete the survey during parent conferences this coming week!
Parents with children
in grades 3-8 who are in the bilingual program are invited to the Navigating the American Educational System (NAES) parent night. Juan Corona, the Director
of English Language Learners, will present in Spanish
on February 18th at
6:00 p.m. at Jefferson Junior High School.
At the meeting, he will talk about ACCESS and
Star assessments, the triangle of success, the vision of the bilingual program, and the
city of Woodridge will also be there to talk about the resources they offer.
Please remember that on Thursday, February 12th we
will be having a half day of school. The children will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. There
will be no lunches served on Thursday.
Finally, please continue to send warm clothes for your child to wear during outdoor recess. Students need snow
pants, boots, hats, gloves, and scarves on these chilly February days, and they must have snow pants and boots in order to play in the snow. Also, it is beneficial for students to wear their boots to school in the morning, but bring gym shoes to change into once they arrive at school. This is beneficial for their comfort in the classroom and necessary for their participation in gym.
