We held our first Fire Drill for the year on Tuesday, September 24th. The students and staff practiced getting out of the building as quickly and quietly as possible through the nearest exit to their location within the building at the time that the alarm sounds. Each classroom has a designated place where they meet and line up in order for us to efficiently account for every individual from the school. This includes our office staff accounting for any parents or volunteers who may be in the building. As a result, it is critical that all parents continue to sign in at the office and leave a photo I.D. with office staff. In the event of an emergency, this will help us ensure that we are aware of all individuals who are present in the building. If you happen to be in the school during an evacuation, please be sure to report directly to the bike racks outside of the school where we will meet in order to ensure that you are safe.
Session one of our after school clubs began in October! We have many students who are staying after school to participate in activities that are being provided by our staff! We are also offering a 4 p.m. activity bus for our students who typically ride the bus. There is a hotline for parents to call with questions regarding the after school clubs. Information regarding the hotline can be found in our school "Peachjar." We do have a limited number of spaces for the after school programs, but will be offering two more sessions later in the year and hope that students who were not able to participate this session will have an opportunity to be involved during another session later this year. Scrabble Club and Science Club were both filled on a first come, first served basis and Sessions 2 and 3 will also be filled that way as well.
This past week, our 5th Grade students attended Covenant Harbor for Outdoor Education! Our staff and students had an excellent time learning, working, and eating together for two days! This was our first time attending Covenant Harbor and our students enjoyed participating in things like an aquatic study, a mammal study, orienteering, archery, wall climbing, a night hike, and the high ropes course! Thank you to our PTO who held a fun raiser last year in order to lower the cost for our students and their families! Also, a special "Thank You" to our parents who joined us and served as chaperone's for the trip!! We couldn't have gone without them!
We are now actively using our new Virtual Backpack "Peachjar" to post flyers with information for parents on a regular basis. Please be sure to check out the "Peachjar" and sign up to receive notifications when items are added to the "Peachjar." There are currently flyers posted on the "Peachjar" regarding our Boxtop Contest that is now going on, the Halloween Dance, and the raffle that will be held at the Halloween Dance.
