Principal's Update 01-30-2015

Finally, we had a five day week!

Our 3rd graders participated in an in-school field trip on Wednesday! The Mayor of Storytown visit both third grade classes for a presentation on using their creativity and imigination to write creatively. Students drew pictures for inspiration for writing and discussed how pictures can help with designing unique characters.

Sixth graders Kailey and Jacob competed in the District #68 Spelling Bee on Wednesday evening. Both students did an excellent job representing Willow Creek! Jacob was the runner up for the entire school district, as he finished second! Kudos to both of our spellers!!

The Willow Creek PTO hosted our annual Roller Skating Party on Thursday evening! We had a great turn out and loads of fun! Thank you to the PTO for such a great evening of skating together with family and friends!

We held our Bulldog Groups for the month of January on Friday. The topic for the groups this month was Handling Anger Appropriately. While in the group, the students learned about identifying their triggers for what makes them upset or angry. By identifying triggers, students can then think about ways to avoid becoming angry and ways to stay calm. The students also discussed how to appropriately  express their feelings when they are angry. Ideas the students brainstormed included taking deep breaths, counting to ten, talking with a trusted adult or friend, or walking away.

Students will bring home information regarding the Young Authors Program. Entries for Young Authors are due to teachers by Tuesday, February 17th. I have also posted the flier regarding Young Authors to the Peachjar!

The 5Essentials Survey is open for parents to complete. Please take five quick minutes to provide answers to the survey questions in order to help our school improve. Click on the following link to go directly to the 5Essentials Survey.

Orders for the KidsStuff Coupon books are due this coming Friday, February 6th. Be sure to return the coupon book by Friday if you are not ordering.

Please note, Market Day pick-up is this Friday. Orders can be placed online until Monday @ 11 p.m. The orginal date for pick-up was a misprint, so I have posted the updated order form with the correct date to the Peachjar. Revised forms also went home with students last Friday.
