We had an action packed week at Willow Creek! As many of you saw from my blog posts this week, it was a busy week with several exciting events throughout the week.
Our students truly enjoyed the ProKids Assembly on Wednesday! If you have not already taken a look at my post from Wednesday please read about the important messages that were shared with our students about demonstrating strong character. Discussing the assembly at home with your children can be a great way for parents to lead into a conversation about being trustworthy, honest, and making good choices even when it is difficult and adults are not watching.
We were lucky that the weather held out and all students were able to run outside for our Fun Run on Friday. Thank you to all of our parents who volunteered! The event would not have been possible without the help of our parents and grandparents who came out to assist. It was also great to see so many parents and families who attended to cheer on our students. A special thanks to Mrs. Bailey, our PE teacher, and Willow Creek parent, Jessica Venouziou, who coordinated the event. I was also impressed by all of our students for accepting Mrs. Bailey's challenge to continue moving for the entire time period they were allotted to run or walk. All students who participated walked or ran for the entire time and they were also encouraging one another and congratulating one another for their accomplishments. As you can see in the slideshow below students were also cheering on other grades as they watched them run. Part of the "F" in our new district FOCUS is that students form strong relationships with one another. I definitely witnessed students supporting each other on Friday and was extremely proud of their efforts and positive attitudes while also treating one another with kindness and respect.
Friday was American Indian Day of remembrance. Once again, this is a day that has been designated as a day of commemoration and according to Illinois School Code, teachers and students are required to devote a portion of the school day to study or honor this day. As a result, Willow Creek teachers did talk with students about American Indian culture and the contributions that American Indians have made to the United States. The information discussed with students was determined by the classroom teachers in order for them to tailor it to the age of the students in their grade or class.
This coming Friday, we will be having our fall pictures. Picture order forms were sent home with students this past week. Students should bring completed forms with their payment to school with them on Friday. They will give the forms and payment directly to the photographers when they get their pictures taken. All students will have their pictures taken on Friday in order for them to be included in the class picture for the year, however, only students who bring in an order form and payment with them on Friday will received printed pictures.
